30 DeLaval rotaries sold in Germany
Since the German reunification, which coincided with the new era of rotary sales, DeLaval Germany and Austria have sold 250 rotary parlours. However, this is not all. As many as 150 HBR platforms have been sold during the same time. Today Germany is one of the biggest rotary markets in the world. In 2004 DeLaval Germany has sold 30 platforms making this year the best HBR year since the introduction.
It all started in the early nineties with the external rotaries from New Zealand. But as there was a need for platforms where the operator stands in the centre of the platform DeLaval went for an internal Parallel rotary followed by the Indexing and LCD Herringbone platforms. During this time DeLaval New Zealand was helpful with support and development of products suitable for the German market. Many of the first installations in were made by New Zealand installation crews.
When the rotary business became a permanent part of the daily business the production was moved to Saxony in the eastern part of Germany and installation crews were established. In the late nineties the HBR concept was introduced to the market. Today 150 out of the 250 installations sold over the years are HBR installations. The concept is well known and thanks to the sequencing gate concept DeLaval now has a very competitive product. About 7 percent of all DeLaval milking parlours are rotary installations.
DeLaval has a long history in the rotary business. The first rotary – the Rotolactor – was delivered to an American farmer as early as 1928 making DeLaval pioneers and ground breakers in this field.
